About
Betânia Paiva Drumond is a tenured Assistant Professor in Microbiology at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). She completed her MSc and PhD in microbiology and virology at UFMG and postdoctoral studies in genomics at Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ). Dr. Drumond’s major research interests are arboviral surveillance, molecular and biological characterization, viral evolution, and dynamics. Following the 2016-18 yellow fever outbreak in Brazil, she has worked closely with other investigators to identify the origin, ecology, and dynamics of yellow fever transmission, as well as disease course in humans. Dr. Dumond also mentors graduate students, teaches undergraduate and graduate-level virology and microbiology courses, and leads research projects at UFMG. She serves as co-PI for CREATE-NEO's work with UFMG
