With deep sadness we announce the sudden demise of Prof. A.K. Prasad (1937 – 2021), Ex-President, Indian Virological Society who spent his whole career working in virology at the premier institutions of the country at different positions.
Prof. Prasad was an excellent researcher and teacher. His research has been associated with all aspects of the human life especially working on influenza viruses. Prof. Prasad was a scientific figure in contributing to world on different research areas of Influenza.
Prof. Prasad has made significant contributions to the understanding of human respiratory viral infections by investigating acute and chronic respiratory diseases in children and adults due to respiratory viruses. He was the Founder Chairman/President of Influenza Foundation of India; Member of Asia Pacific Advisory Committee for Influenza, Board Member Asia Pacific Alliance for the Control of Influenza, Consultant to WHO SEARO to Indonesia and Bhutan. He also served as President of the Indian Virological Society and Biotechnology Society of India. He also worked as the Editor–in–Chief for Influenza Foundation of India News Letter.
Many scientists and students will remember him due to his extensive knowledge and speaking skills to share his knowledge with younger generations.
