Ali Mirazimi currently holds the position of Adjunct Professor at the Karolinska Institute, within the Department of Clinical Microbiology. Additionally, he serves as the head of a section at the National Veterinary Institute and holds the role of senior expert scientist at the Public Health Agency of Sweden. Completing his Ph.D. in Infection Biology in 2000 from the Department of Microbiology, Tumor Biology, and Cell Biology at the Karolinska Institute, he swiftly progressed in his career. Initially appointed as a junior lecturer at the Karolinska Institute, he later secured a position as a Molecular Virologist at the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control in 2002.
In 2006, he attained the position of Associate Professor at the Karolinska Institute. Notably, he led the BSL-4 Virology Unit at the Centre for Microbiological Preparedness at the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease from 2004 to 2010. Since 2023, he has been serving as the chairman of the Swedish Society for Virology. Currently, he plays a pivotal role in coordinating various national and international research programs.
His research group focuses on comprehending the molecular pathogenesis of emerging viruses, with a primary emphasis on the role of innate immunity in controlling the viral replication cycle. Furthermore, his group explores virus-host cell interactions and virus biology.
