Dr. Ali Zohaib obtained a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Wuhan Institute of Virology, in 2019 where he performed the epidemiological investigation of several (re) emerging viruses in Pakistan and Kenya, including MERS-CoV. Dr. Zohaib is currently working as an Assistant Professor at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan, in the department of Health Care Biotechnology. His research is dedicated to emerging and reemerging zoonotic viruses under the umbrella of “One Health” and their interactions with variable hosts. His lab studies the molecular epidemiology and seroprevalence of (re) emerging viruses e.g., West Nile Virus, MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV2, CCHFV and SFTSV. Dr. Zohaib is also working towards the mapping of emerging zoonotic diseases from Pakistan and development of cost-effective and point of care diagnostic for (re) emerging viral diseases. The long term goal of his research is to establish in vitro high-throughput cell culture-based assays for risk assessment of (re) emerging viruses.
