Dr. Taweewun Hunsawong is a senior scientist and currently serves as a Head of Virology-serology section at the Department of Virology, U.S. Army Medical Directorate – Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (USAMD-AFRIMS), Bangkok. Thailand. Her research areas focus on surveillance study, pathogenesis, host-pathogen interaction, anti-viral drug and vaccine development for vector-borne viral diseases including dengue virus, chikungunya virus and zika virus but not limited to respiratory viruses like influenza and SARS-CoV-2. Dr. Hunsawong has conducted and participated in animal studies to investigate the efficacy of dengue adjuvanted vaccine, anti-viral properties of FDA-approved drug for controlling arbovirus infections and animal SARS-CoV-2 model validation for anti-viral drug and vaccine developments. She is the author of multiple peer-reviewed papers targeting the pathogenesis, in vitro, and preclinical vaccine efficacy testing for dengue virus and SARS-CoV-2. She is also focusing on Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTSV) in Thailand using One Health approach for systemic surveillance study.
