With profound grief, we inform that we have lost one of our esteemed eminent Memeber of the Membership Review Committee, Prof. Milind M. Gore, on 9 Mar. 2023.
Prof. Milind M. Gore was an internationally renowned expert in virus research. Prof. Gore worked on various levels at National Institute of Virology Pune from 1978 to 2017 after his initial PhD studies. He retired Scientist G (Director level) from NIV on 31 January 2017. During this he worked on Rabies on Govt of India support at The Wistar Institute, Philadelphia in 1987-Dec 1988 under the supervision of Prof H. Koprowaski. He was posted at Gorakhpur Eastern Uttar Pradesh to establish a new Unit of NIV in 2008. Gorakhpur has multiple etiological agents causing Acute Encephalitis syndrome (~2500 cases/year). The work involved in public health, serosurveys, routine diagnostic of JE and enterovirus. Prof. Gore have developed IgM ELISA for NPEV as diagnostic test. Worked with PATH, and various Govt Institutes in Health system from State and Central level.
Prof. Gore possessed extensive expertise in viral immunology including clinical situation and animal models. Worked on interferon, monoclonal antibody generation and characterization, peptide chemistry and developed chimeric T helper-B cell epitope based peptide vaccine. Supported students for developing cDNA vaccines, innate immune response. Helped in developing commercial tissue culture inactivated vaccine against Japanese encephalitis (JENVAC) with Bharat Biotech International Ltd. Extensive expertise in virus isolation e.g. JE, DEN, rabies, Enteroviruses, Chandipura. Field experience in rural Indian region in different places. At Gorakhpur UP lot of interest in using MAbs for virus detection in entomology. Prof. Gore published more than 65 publications, and has awarded Dr.Pran Nath Chhuttani Oration National Academy of Medical Sciences (India). He supervised the development and commercialization of tissue derived inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine.He served as an eminent member of the Membership Review Committee of the World Society for Virology since 16 Sept 2019.
